SideHack BBQ Legend

Chef/Owner Brian Johns is a local guy, raised just a few miles down the road in Evans City.

He began his culinary career in 1995 as a short-order line cook and student in the vo-tech culinary arts program. He then earned his associate degree from PA Culinary in 1999.

Since that time, Brian has gained experience in many levels of the industry. He began his career as an apprentice at The Balsams 5-star Grand Resort Hotel in New Hampshire, where he honed his foundational skills. He then advanced to a shift manager position at USA Gourmet in Pittsburgh, further developing his leadership abilities. Brian continued to build his resume as a pastry chef at Highland Country Club in Westview, showcasing his culinary skills, and later served as a sous chef at Hartner’s Restaurant in Cranberry, where he refined his expertise in kitchen operations and team management.

Next, Brian took on the role of store manager at Pizza Roma Shadyside, applying his extensive experience in a new context. Capitalizing on this diverse background, he became a founding partner at Goodfello’s Pizza, Pasta & Grille in 2009. Throughout these varied roles, Brian has demonstrated a strong commitment to excellence and a versatile skill set, positioning him as a valuable asset in the culinary industry.

In early 2023, he decided to pursue his dream of opening a motorcycle-themed BBQ & ice cream place to serve the local community where he was raised. Brian is proud to be part of the wonderful group of small businesses that call Butler County home.

He hopes to make SideHack BBQ & Ice Cream a staple of this community and serve quality creations to you all for many years to come!
